Babble!

Today, after his afternoon nap, Andrew awoke with some exciting new things to say!
It started with rar rar rar rar rar... Later on, Dar dar dar... Then Bla bla bla bla... While his mouth made this funny open-and-close wide mouth movement. He wouldn't cooperate for a cell phone recording (on seeing the phone he stops talking and reaches for it while screaming because he wants it).Froggy outfit pics from the day of our sushi outing.

Passed out in his jumperoo!

Andrew Eats Sushi!

Rachel treated us to lunch at Asahi! Mr. Asahi (umm, that might not be his name) gave Andrew special treats once he saw that he enjoyed sucking on the empty edamame pods. First, he sent some avocado his way- yumyumyum... followed by -surprise- a crab stick!
The next 3 pics were taken with Rachel's cell phone. He LOVED it! I enjoyed the spicy salmon roll.

Visit to Maine

Kisses from Smokey!Having fun alongside cousin Viv~
This was after Mom left Andrew for over 2 hours with Aunt Wendy and Vivien!
Poor Auntie had an inconsolable baby on her hands... She tried everything- burping, feeding- Andrew even "crashed" for a 20 minute nap. Nothing worked 'til Mom came back! Separation anxiety is ROUGH! Meanwhile Mom was getting a nice birthday-present massage. (Mom did not have any anxiety!)
Andrew is beginning to inherit all sorts of nifty toys from his cousin!
Grandpa fed him squash for the first time~ Good stuff!
We went for a sled ride down to the lake before it became absolutely frigid outside.
Andrew was dressed in 2 additional outfits and socks underneath his snowsuit!
The antique sled was easy to manuever through the icy snow. Fun!
Andrew was making "Mmm!" noises much of the time, clearly enjoying it!

Buddies?
Cousin Vivien was very kind to offer her sippy cup...

....And a Teddy Graham!
I don't think Andrew enjoys those necklaces!
Grandma (Gigi), daughter and grandson- geared up for Patriots action!!!
Andrew stayed up late to watch the whole game!
....and wore a victory hat! (courtesy of Auntie Wendy)
Off to the Superbowl!!!

Prune Lover

Andrew is becoming really good at sitting! In the recent past, like the early days of tummy time, he'd become fussy from all the effort it took. This afternoon, seemingly over his feverish fussiness 24 hours later, he spent a few minutes at a time, unassisted!

A graceful yet great big fall!
Argh, got in the way of the flash.
Who knew prunes were soooooo delicious! Had to let him "go to town" since he was enjoying- well, practically inhaling them! It was almost bath time & inspired after talking to Uncle Matt on the phone who was busy feeding cousin Vivien something messy. Later, after removing his outfit from the wash, even after treatment with Shout, the prunes stained! We'll have to reserve this sunny outfit for further prune "excursions". Then again, (this actually being his first stained outfit), I better get used to it!

Visit to Nana's and Dr. James

Chats with Nana!Nana prepared a delicious chicken soup for Mommy and fed Andrew some pears for lunch. Delicious!!
...When we got home, after then seeing Dr. James.
The stats: 19 1/2 pounds, 28 1/2".
Dr. James and the receptionists were commenting how big, and that he looks the same age as a one-year-old they saw earlier in the day!
Nap-time came easily after all those shots.

Opera-singing in the bath~
He was slightly tired and sore but otherwise his cheery self!
Soon before bed tonight.
A cold nap-inducing stroller ride yesterday... it was 4:00 and I knew he *had* to nap.
We did double-track a lot due to the uncleared sidewalks- BUT, it worked!

6 Months Young!

Andrew celebrated this momentous occasion by going out to sushi lunch with Uncle Mike and Aunt Maureen, to Mommy's local favorite, Asahi, in Brighton Center.

Daddy, who is not a sushi fan, stayed at home and had roast beef.
I've kept reflecting the past week or so, that he is pretty much 6 months old. To ever-inquiring stangers I'd say,
"Almost 6 months!", to which they'd respond unanimously,
"What a big boy!!!"
All the older parents we meet chant,
"It goes by so fast..."
In the beginning development is slow yet bittersweet. Survival mode is in full swing.
It's hard to get on the computer to blog.
The unknowns of being new to parenting are daunting:
Exhaustion.
Why is he crying ?
HOW can I get 'XYZ' accomplished today?
Am I talking to him enough?
Should I let him cry for that long?
When, when, when will he do.....? And then presto! A developmental surprise unfolds.
I didn't know breastfeeding would be so absolutely exhausting- and, I didn't know I'd stick with it this long. Mommy-guilt is intense.
Besides immunities, I am hoping it has been giving him a good start on flavors. Honestly. I've tasted the formula: it's like cardboard.
We're lucky he's been a great sleeper (compared to other horror stories!) I think the trick has been making the effort not to cosleep....
It's no wonder why a lot of moms give it up so early on.
For all the effort put in, maybe someday he'll be my buddy at the sushi counter? :D He was after the chopsticks today so that's a start;;;
